Hebrews is a letter addressing superiority. Hebrews lays out the sufficiency and superiority of Christ. It appears to be written to Jews who were considering Jesus or struggling with this new faith. The author of Hebrews argues that Christ is superior to the angels, to Moses, and the Old Testament priesthood. In fact, the author explains that the New Covenant is better than the Old Covenant. He speaks of the superiority of faith as the sacrifices of animals needed to continue annually, but the sacrifice of Christ was once for all. We learn that, by faith, we have a heavenly hope that enables us to persevere and overcome in this life. He reminds the readers that even their esteemed patriarchs lived according to faith.
