I heard a preacher speaking about how much God wants to bless His children.  His argument was that our God is rich and His children are King’s kids, not paupers with no future.  Of course, he was speaking about material blessing such as a Mercedes or BMW versus an old clunker, a house that reflects the riches of God’s blessing instead of an old house that makes God look like He’s short on funds.

The whole idea caused me to think about something very seriously… what does God value?  Does God drool over the latest model of Mercedes so that He would see it as the highest for His children?  If Jesus were here today, would He have made sure that His disciples had luxury homes and beautiful mega-churches so that people would know just how blessed they are?  I think not – especially since Jesus told one would be follower “foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay His head.”  It seems that men have a tendency to place a high value on things that God places no value on.  Because of this, many have forsaken people in the name of pursuing things.

Don’t let the world fool you into thinking that having better ‘stuff’ will satisfy you – it certainly isn’t God’s plan to place into His children a covetous heart for better things.  The world is trying to corrupt your heart by causing you to put a high value on things that have no value to God.  That’s why scripture says “keep (or guard) your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life” (Proverbs 4:23).

So what does God value…YOU.  The world wants to corrupt your heart with its many lures, but God wants to keep it by His word.  You are valuable to God and the most valuable thing you have is your heart ‘for out of it spring the issues of life.’  God is concerned about what things we set our hearts on because where our treasure is, there our heart is also.  Don’t let the world steal your heart and cause you to place value on the wrong things.  Guard your heart, for in doing so you will be guarding what is most valuable to God… you.
