There are some times that it seems easier to do what God has asked us to do than at other times. Whenever we set out to follow the Lord with all our heart, it never fails that difficult times will eventually come. If the Lord has asked you to do a better job loving your spouse, there will be times when they make it more difficult. When the Lord asks you to fulfill a task, there will be times when other things come up that challenge your commitment to what God wants you to do. It’s in these times that we need to find our strength in the ‘joy of the Lord.’
Our greatest joy is found in pleasing our Father in heaven. Whether we get any credit for things here on earth or not, pleasing God is what ultimately fulfills us most. Sure, things might be difficult, but what a joy it is to lay your head on your pillow at night knowing that you did all that God gave you to do. It won’t always be easy, but it’s persevering in the difficult times that brings the greatest joy. The reason is simple, for we know without a doubt that it wasn’t out of convenience or our own strength, but HIS strength that we were able to persevere. Perseverance is a sign of genuine faith. So fix your eyes on the Lord, keep following Him by faith, and enjoy the joy of the Lord that fills you as a result.
